Chris - 20.18

186:28 - 9:14 pace

I'm really happy with how this run went, and with how I feel afterward so far! I ran this a full 2 minutes faster than the 20 miler last year with Jeeni. Good for about 12 seconds faster per mile. I haven't had my ice bath yet, but I barely feel like I need to. I'm going to anyways, but that's still a good sign. Jeeni's volleyball team (Century High School varsity) has a tournament in Tualatin all day, so my dad volunteered to drive out to Hillsboro and meet me at various spots along my route to give me water and extra gel packs so I wouldn't have to carry everything myself the whole way. He was a huge help - I bought him lunch afterward at the Rock Creek Corner Pub. I saw a huge hawk along the run, sitting on a telephone pole scouting out the fields. I also was passed by about 20 road bikes out for a morning ride. My knees tightened up at times, but then would loosen and be fine. I started to run on the sidewalk for a bit after mile 16 or so, but it was noticable how much harder it hit my feet and legs so I crossed the road and ran in the sun in the bike lane. Once I knew I was getting close to the finish - probably about a little less than a mile out - I was able to speed up my pace pretty well without killing myself. I'd guess I was doing between 8-8:15 pace. Nothing better than finishing an epic run with a nice kick and huge smile on your face!

James - 0.9

It's been too long...

I am still nursing the same ankle injury that I sustained at the end of January. I don't know if I'm not doing the right things to treat it, or not enough, or what. I've learned stretches from fitness instructors, been to an Eastern medicine herbal doctor, and gotten an ankle support. A cotton one - maybe I need a more heavy duty one?

Mainly I don't know whether to stay off it or try and train it back to health. I need to find out because it isn't really improving by itself so far. Last week I tried a little run though. I did 0.4, and even at a slow pace it started to get sore, so I stopped. That night I dreamed that my troubles were over and I sprinted past a crowd to win a track race. So I went again the next day, with pretty much the same results as the day before.

In the meantime, as ever, I am going to the gym and trying to keep my strength up. Alison has been kicking the gyms ass and making us do lots of walking because she got a fun pedometer.

Now, can this place be revived!

Chris - 5.05

42:17 - 8:22 pace

I have to rush off to get to Jeeni's volleyball game she's coaching, but I wanted to blog this real quick b/c something interesting happened! Not even a mile into my run I passed a couple kids that were probably 15 or so, sitting on a bench. As I passed them they raised up their hands and clapped, "go go, you can do it!". I figured they were being wise-asses, so I put up my arm and waved and said, "come run with me!". I get about 10 yards up the road, and here come these two guys running up next to me with their backpacks on and everything. I chatted with the first guy Zach, he asked if I went to Wilson High and why I was running. I was pretty entertained that they actually responded to my beckoning to come run with me! Good stuff. Other than that the run was fine. I have a 5 mile pace run tomorrow, a 5 miler again on Thur, then the big 20 miler on Saturday. Woot!
