Tried a race effort of Fox Hollow. Was hoping for somewhere around 55 minutes (PR is 56:02). First 1.5mi in 9:07, then got on a very soggy Rexius trail, where I only managed about 6:40 pace. My legs were really heavy after that, and I had the hill to look forward to. Managed 8:11 up, for a halfway split of 29:52, which is pretty much right where I needed to be for a 55. Down took 6:14 (I was hoping for sub-6), and then had to get on Rexius again. It wasn't nearly as soggy as the side I take on the way out, but it was still really soft. Managed 6:20 pace for it, which left me at 48-flat with a mile and a half to go. I knew a sub-8 1.5 miles was pretty much impossible, but I went as fast as I could and managed 8:31, so about 5:40 pace. I think I'll have to wait until summer, when the trails are dry, to break 56.
I used the word "managed" four times in this post. I think that means something.
